Hi all,

Does anyone know what happens to the hard drives that are replaced under the Seagate 1TB hard drive replacement? I am concerned about data security. I have always kept the hard drives from any computer I have disposed of, but it occurs to me I will have no control of what happens to the hard drive after it is replaced in my iMac. I don't think the stores keep a degausser handy, and I would be suprised if Apple will pay the cost of bulk destruction of these drives. Do we get to take away the faulty drive; that way at least I know where my data is??  I would be horrified if I subsequently learnt that these drives were simply refurbished, or dropped into landfill, as anyone picking up the disk could extract my data from it again.

Anyone have any thoughts here?

Paul.
