Since ML 10.8.2  I've had constant random lockups (requiring holding the power button), unresponsive browsers and keyboard/track pad. sluggishness restored by PRAM/SMC reset.. other serious problems continue. WE NEED 10.8.3!!!

I've seriously never had problems like this with my mac on the previous two operating systems.

I know this isn't a newly reported issue, but people need to make a paper trail to get it fixed..

If I can get a backup drive, I may try to reinstall the OS fresh, but I'm definitely tempted just to install 10.8.0 and not update till this is fixed. Ideas?

MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I have a similar problem.  OSX started being unresponsive... spinning beachball each time I tried to do anything. It didn't seem to be program specific. A hard restart would solve the issue for a short time then it would reoccur. I then tried restarting in safe mode - holding shift key. It would get about 10% across the progress bar then die. Restarting did the same thing. Eventually I did a full restore from backup. Everything was fine for 4 days then today I have the same issue again.

I tried booting from a hard drive that I have mountain lion installer on. But it won't let me select my internal hard drive to install on saying "Disk is locked".

Argh. So I'm now installing a system on an external drive so I can at least check my backups and scrub the internal drive.

I've had no issues with 10.8.2 and I've been running it since the developer update came out. I'm not sure why you're having problems, but doing a clean install of OS X is always an option, of course, but only after you've a backup. You may want to run - just for kicks - the Apple Hardware Test first, just to eliminate any hardware issues. If no hardware issues are found, get yourself an external drive, use Time Machine to create a backup, and create a bootable installation USB flash drive using Lion DiskMaker. Boot from the USB flash drive and earase your drive and reinstall ML. Then restore the TM backup.

    Sorry you're having such problems...

10.8.2 has broken Recovery Assistant and there has been NO response in this forum to my complaints. Isn't anyone else seeing this?  I think 10.8.2 is the worst update ever.

I also experienced lockups (spinning beachball) and noticed this happening when I was at conference last week and disconnected from the internet. This was a bit freaky as I was presenting and needed my mac and my slides to run smoothly. I booted my machine 30 minutes before my presentation and had little time to work through mac issues.

I experimented a bit afterwards and noticed that the issue would reappear when working "off the grid" and disappear after the mac was re-connected through wifi. Since I was not trying to access the internet, I have no clue of the cause of the problems. Seems like the mac was hanging while trying to access a remote server.

I never had such issues before upgrading to ML and I have not changed anything on my Mac since the upgrade. But the huge issue for me is the Mountain Lion Sleep issue. This is well documented already. Basically, I have to leave my mac awake all the time as it will disconnect my network drives after sleep. This unables all my night backups.

I would go back to Lion without hesitation if I had a good way to do it. Good lessons learned, I will clone my machine before any Apple OS update in the future.

If you are reading this and wondering whether to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Please make sure you read all the OS Issues before making your decision. To me, 10.8.2 is still a buggy beta version with serious show stoppers. It should have never been released by Apple in this form.

Has anyone noticed video playback makes the computer freeze? Tried watching a video last night, and just now and it locks up and I have to force quit the application. I figured it was because I was streaming the video last night, but I downloaded it directly to my hard drive, and it is still doing it.

Googled it and came across this. I understand Apple has done some major improvements with the operating systems, so this being the first major time anyone has had a problem with it is good. Let's just hope they clean this up quickly and people report the problem enough.

I am having the same problem too. Even playing a Youtube freezes the system for a while..

When waking up from hibernation mode - system wakes up and goes again to hibernation again. Second time, waking up properly in the Mid 2011 iMac 21.5".

I'm wondering id I can install the 10.8.2 combo update on top of the app store update to 10.8.2 and if it would do any good.

Somewhere, somebody suggested running AHT (Apple Hardware Test). I did and it found a problem so I'm not sure my problems are being caused by 10.8.2, seems more likely that I have a hardware problem.

My mini has the HDMI issue that others have already reported here. I use 2 Samsung 24" lcds, one connected to thunderbolt and one to the hdmi port: i got the blank screen/snow issue ONLY when the HDMI port is used. This happens with HDMI->DVI adapter and also with pure HDMI cabling.

With the same screen, mini conneceted to the Thunderbolt port, this doesn't happen.

I got those annoying random black screens and 2-3 times every day the snowing black/grey/white screen.

do we need an hardware fix (and this means that we'll stay without our machines for days) and the 10.8.3 update (or a firmware update) could help us?

    thank you
