This does work, but is sadly not a permanent fix. Every so often my iPhone throws up a shortcut which has no resemblance to my own. The only way I've found to get it to "remember" the right shortcut AGAIN to reboot the phone.  Believe me I have tried all the various suggestions in this thread!

There must be a bug in iOS6 for this to keep happening.

Submit Feedback next option & hope Apple issue a fix. This never happened with iOS5

I know what you mean mine doesn't always want to do the shortcut but its better then what it was.

And there isn't much else we can do apart from telling them but to apple it's not even a problem.

This update solved my issues as well. Hopefully it will last. It did fix everything immediately once the update was finshed though. That is a good sign!

Update did not fix my keyboard shortcuts one bit. Ever since upgrading to iOS 6 my shortcuts work and then will not work. I've documented when and what others claim to do to resolve it--restore, restart, go into the shortcut setting create new or delete shortcut etc.--and I see no logic standing out as to what is causing this error. No suggested tactic has worked nor has restoring the phone to as new status made a difference. Whatever it is has got to be fixed. So very annoying to type not knowing for sure if the shortcut is going to work or not. It's also a pain in the *** for people with a disibility that rely so much on this feature. It's detrimental to quite a few people, and just annoying to you and I.

Try adding a new short cut first. That's what I did. And it worked.

Like I said in my post, I tried that and sometimes it made a difference working a few times and then stopping keyboard shortcuts altogether again. Other times I have tried that same tip and it made absolutely no difference.

The point I'm trying to get across is that regardless of all these workarounds they do not work as permanent solutions, only temporary until the problem manifests itself again. I've tried the tip such as you've suggested all the way to restoring my device to factory settings--setting up as new, NOT from backup--and the problem still persists on both iOS 6 versions.

This is what I did step by step and it worked like a charm... I had an iPhone 4 when I did this a few days ago. I have documents and data ON in iCloud...

    1. write down or take screenshots of all existing shortcuts

    2. delete all shortcuts

    3. backup to iCloud (I think this clears all shortcuts you have stored in iCloud)

    4. go back to settings-->general-->keyboard... You may notice one or a few generic shortcuts pop up on their own. The one that popped up for me was OMW (on my way)

    5. re enter all of your shortcuts and phrases

    6. when done, back up again to iCloud (stores your new shortcuts)

I restarted my phone. Shortcuts still worked. I just got a 4S and restored from the iCloud backup mentioned in step 6 and my shortcuts worked on my new phone.

Good Luck. I hope this helps everyone.

And yet again, the same recommendation already posted 50 times.. Thanks anyway..  The point is, this woks until it stops working, and again, and again, and again....

The point being, 113 replies, 21,090 views, and not a single official word from Apple. That is the down side of buying Apple, you buy products "as is" since the is no hope that they will listen to you and do something about it unless the issue is huge and make it to the news.

I guess I will add my .02..... My phone will not even let me create a new shortcut or delete a shortcut.  Woooo hooooo.  Gotta love it. You would think after the most recent update that it woulda fixed the issue.  Guess not.

I think you must have an icloud account for it to work - so it can sync with all the devices you have...

Apple added text expansion to iOS 5, and it was awesome, letting you type in long usernames, addresses, and other text with just a few strokes on your keyboard. We showed you some essential shortcuts to set up, and now iOS 6 has made the feature even better, letting you sync it between your other iOS devices (like an iPod touch and an iPad)—along with your custom keyboard dictionary. To do so, you'll need an iCloud account. Then, just head to Settings > iCloud, and scroll down to Documents & Data. Tap it, flip the switch to On, and do the same on your other iOS 6 devices. Your custom dictionary and shortcuts should stay in sync between all your devices.

I went to settings ----> icloud ------> Documents & Data -----> Clicked Off then hit CANCEL instead of turn off documents, closed settings and mine are working again.

Trixxa, that worked for me, too. That's the quickest/easiest thing I have tried so far, thanks!!!

This worked for me as well.  Hopefully it stays working.  Thanks!
