I got a new camera that uses a memory card... I had been using DV... and when I tried to upload the video... a finsished fcp profect to Youtube, I got the following message: ! the file you loaded is not a properly formatted video file.  When I copied the project the desktop... in preperation to load it to Youtube... it had a file extension I've never seen before... XML.  Do I need to convert the file??? Will I need software to do this?  Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

    What's the camera?

How are you getting the project out of FCP? Are you using the export function? Share to YouTube? What exactly are you doing?

When I copied the project the desktop

    What does this mean?

What happens exactly when you use Share to YouTube?

    I put it on desktop

What's exactly is it? The exported file? How are you exporting? What settings?

FCP X does have an option to export XML; did you use it by accident? (XML can be used to export to other programs for further processing; but you - as most people, I imagine - don't need that, otherwise you would know about it).

What do you mean by "copied the project the desktop"?!

You can export to a quicktime file (save it in the desktop or wherever you like on your drive). Make sure this plays in QT Player. Then use the youtube site to upload.

Or, you can export to youtube directly from inside FCP X.

With the project open in the timeline and the timeline the active panel use this

I am assuming version 10.0.6. If you have a different version please specify.

You cannot drag and drop a porject to the desktop. You have to export it in some way.
