I have three questions about connecting a HDTV that supports 1080p to my iMac in order to use it as a second monitor. The TV has both VGA and HDMI inputs. I have found (online) adapters to connect both the VGA and the HDMI on the TV to the Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt port on my iMac as well as cables that will achive this without the need for adapters. The cable(s) seems easier yet most claim they don't support audio and that leads to question one. Though the cable(s) seem easier I'd like to have audio on the second display and that leads to question two. Audio aside and this is simply to expand my iMac's display leads to question three.

1) Do Mini DP to VGA and/or Mini DP to HDMI cables and/or adapters support audio?

2) If the cable and/or adapters don't support audio is there a way to achieve this result?

3) Which will have better results as far as image quality (hoping for audio as well) VGA or HDMI?

Thank you for any help.

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
