Within the last few days my early 2011 Macbook Pro, which I've had for a little over a year, has become incredibly slow.  Simple actions (opening applications, loading webpages) can cause the computer to slow down and load (rotating rainbow mouse icon) for prolonged periods of time, and the computer takes an incredibly long time to start up.  I've run anti-virus software to see if that was the issue, but there were no virus or security issues detected.

When not doing any function the computer runs fine, but even trying to open a pdf file can cause issues.  Does anyone know where I can continue my search to diagnose this problem?  I'm more than willing to provide more information in search for said diagnosis as well.

You don't need it.  Uninstall it, repair permissions and restart your computer.

You also forgot to mention which os you are using.  Your system profile is a complete blank.

If by chance you recently installed the MacBookPro 2.0 update, feel free to join in the discussion/ complaining here.

check that you have latest EFI firmware and smc here.

if not - it could be sata III problems.

Finally couldn't take it anymore.  I reinstalled OSX from recovery (CMD+R at boot) and now everything seems normal.  So happy that I can actually use my rMBP again.
