How do I uninstall Itunes? It's  a piece of crap program that really bugs me. Does it fulfill any necessary function except trying to force me to buy stuff I don't want and need? While at it, I'd also like to get rid of the extremely annoying built in e-mail program that puts itslef as a useless layer over my well functioning gmail. I'd also like to replace Iphoto with one of the 100 better free photo software there is out there.

In summary, I guess I'm just really mad for believing the Mac hype. I have had this for a year now and I still hate it everyday. The screen looks nice and it is fairly quiet (except the stupid boot sound you cannot opt ot from) but that is about it.

But let's start with Itunes, can I opt out of that?

    1)  Drag the iTunes Application to to the Trash (Located in the Applications Folder)

    2)  ~(User Folder)/Music/iTunes Folder: Drag to Trash

    3)  ~/Library/iTunes Folder: Drag to Trash

    4)  ~/Library/Preferences: Drag all com.apple.iTunes.plist preferences to Trash

    5)  Buy a different brand Computer for your own happiness

Do not delete the Apple Mail App. Mail is a System Application and OS X will not be happy.

    Thanks.

1-4: And you're sure it does not create any other problems? I read somewhere that Itunes fulfills some critical functions

5: Haha, rest assure, I will. And maybe there is a little part of me still hoping I will one day find any advantages of this computer.

ITunes is not really a OS X System App, but it plays a very important role in the Apple eco system.

    Read here for more info

I personally find it to valuable to delete.

OK, thanks again. I think I will be very happy to remove all traces of that "eco system". I use other programs for movies and music, would never use AppleTV and moving any avi.files to the Ipad doesnt work anyway.

Right now I've got my Audioengine A5+ speakers cranked listening via iTunes at the Desktop and streaming at the same time to the second floor B & W speakers via Airplay. Thanks iTunes

Good luck with what ever you decide.

About your comment on music: I stream music in the house through Logitech's Media Server. Instead of paying ridiculous prices per song I use Spotify which lets me listen to an unlimited amount of music at a fixed monthly cost. Also, Logitechs interface lets me listen to any song on Youtube as well, so were I cheap I would not even have to pay for Spotify.

In my experience, for any half smart apple solution, there is a cheaper, more versatile solution created by someone else. Apple may have been great 10 years ago...

Try your local Library for CD/DVD media.

I've been in the Apple eco system since the early 90's. Happy to be here with an asterisk as of late. But I can certainly see why you and others are not as enthralled.

    What is CD / DVD?

I haven't bought a CD or a DVD in at least 5 years. What's the point of storing information on discs anymore? I even run Spotify in the car -my phone bluetooths with the car stereo which also functions as handsfree phone of course.

I'm still old school with bit rates. I grew up with Real to Real and Vinyl. Until the quality improves with streamed music I'm sticking with AIFF files. I archive all my music as AIFF and compress as needed. Storage is relatively cheap.

    Who said anything about Buying.

Thats perfectly understandable. I have small kids running around so sitting down and really listening enough to mind about audio quality doesn't happen...

    Lucky you

I feel bad my uninstall instuctions didn't work. I guess I didn't realize how much iTunes was part of the System.  Lesson learned on my part.
