iPhoto crashed after I uploaded new photos, and when I reloaded all of my albums and events have no thumbnails. The pictures still appear to be there (if I double click on them they show up ) but no thumbails. How do I restore?

    Restore from your back up

    or

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

I have a similair issue, and am still needing help with the above response. What exactly am I restoring, do you mean? My photos are still in their respective "modified" and "originals" folders on the HD. I just don't know why they are completely missing from my iphoto library and albums.

What version of iPhoto do you have?

    I have iphoto 6, Mac OS X ver 10.5.8

I opened my iphoto, which normally has about 14,000 photos in it, and was only seeing the first 10,000 or so photos (chronologically). The rest just aren't there, not in their albums or anywhere in iphoto. However I can still find the original photos in my user/pictures/iphoto library folder.

I have already tried the "rebuilding the thumbnails (small)" and "rebuilding ALL of the thumbnails" options and it is still doing the same thing.

My main hesitancy with just reloading a new iphoto library with all my original photos is that I don't want to start over with the albums. Is there any way to get my iphoto back to the way it was?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)

This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    Terence,

Ok, I tried rebuilding the library via iPhoto Library Manager and the resulting library it created still had the same amount of photos missing from the new library as the original (actually, a couple hundred less).

If I don't mind all the work, would be simpler and more likely to succeed if I just wiped my iphoto library and then (from an external hard drive) just manually re-import my photos one by one, as if I was starting over with a new computer and new iphoto program? Or perhaps try the option that iPhoto gives to "rebuild iphoto library database" –would this work, even if it means losing my albums? Otherwise I am not sure what to do.
