I'm not sure I understand - why would you go to some third party site to download something that is readily available from Apple's download site?
Scroll down for the latest version. It is only an update though - you must have a previous version installed.
I'm also new to MAC, and got a great gift from my family of an iMAC OS Lion 10.7.2 Desktop but, like others have posted, don't have a working iDVD.
I downloaded iLife 11 (version 11.1), but didn't notice iDVD listed on the box (only iPhoto 11, iMovie 11, and GarageBand 11, so maybe I have the wrong version of iLife11 which regards to iDVD?)
An iDVD application and icon does appear on my screen, but if I try to use it by clicking 'Create a New Project', I get this message:
No Themes Installed
Quit iDVD and install iDVD again, or click "Look for Themes" and locate the themes folder.
(I looked for Themes via the Finder search window, but it didn't find any - I'm not sure where to click to search the HD - Library as mentioned above)
I'm not very computer savvy, so am unsure if I installed iDVD correctly? It does appear in the applications, and says that it's version: 7.1.2
I don't remember if I did a Custom Install? (I don't remember seeing a sub-folder with a Themes box to check)
Any help/suggestions much appreciated.
Thank-you very much richsadams for helping me out with iDVD.
I got a new MacBook Pro a few weeks ago running OS X Lion. When I got it I discovered that it no longer had iDVD like previous versions of OS X had. Since then I have been trying to search up ways to get iDVD. None of them worked. But when I came across what you said to do I tried it, and it worked.
Thanks again for the great tip.
Richadams, appreciate your detailed assistance which got me started. Here is my problem:
Purchase iMac with Lion and upgraded to Mt. Lion. Followed your detailed instructions: purchased iLife 09, did the Custom Installed iDVD and updated/downloaded iDVD 7.1.2. iDVD is showing in Applications and “Share to iDVD” is showing in the dropdown menu and the right click menu.
Help instructions say after I do Share to iDVD this which will bring up iDVD and where I will be able to burn a disc. However, when selecting Share to iDVD a message comes up that it is processing (which takes about 15 minutes) but then nothing; the iMovie project window remains. Did a second Custom Install (this time the iDVD was “grayed out”), did a second Share to iDVD, same processing and same result: nothing, iDVD does not appear. Opened iDVD, searched for a possible file but nothing.
What am I missing?
Hmmm...sorry, no idea why it's not behaving normally. (Assuming you're creating in iMovie?)
Perhaps you could try opening iDVD before trying to save/share it?
A work-around might be to create the project, save it as an MPEG4 (highest resolution) file and save that to your desktop. Then open iDVD and drag the file into the hirarchey pane to add it to your project, name it and burn a DVD. I just tried that with a little video I made a while back (sitting in iTunes) and it worked.
Perhaps someone else can help with why it's not working directly out of iMovie though.
Best of luck!
Thanks for the help with getting iDVD. I did the custom install from iLife '09 to OS 10.7.5 and it opens fine. I haven't tried loading anything into it yet. I have a question about Software Updates. I installed the iDVD updates. It did one before updating to 7.1.2, I think it updated to 7.0.4 first. Software Update also wants to update iLife Support. When you did your install did you encounter this and did you do the update?
Here's a screenshot of Software Update.
