iTunes "Apple Application Support is required... Error 2" and possible fix.

I know this is a bit late but I came accross this thread trying to resolve this same problem and came up with a solution that worked for me, so thought I would share it here too. I hope it helps someone else.

I just resolved this on Win Vista (should apply equally for Win7 too). Please uninstall iTunes before proceeding though. I'll walk you through the process I followed, if you like you can jump straight to the Solution section.

    Problems:

The initial error during the installation of iTunes was:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32",publicKeyToken='1fc8b 3b9a1e18e3b",processorarchitecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x8007054F

The error (after installing iTunes) when trying to run iTunes was:

Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again. Error 2 (Windows error 2).

After trying various fixes around the forums I came across this MSKB article, which relates to the first installation error:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2688946

This lead me to trying to install MS Visual C++ but I received the following error trying to install that:

    Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly ‘Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type=”win32”,version=”8.0.50727.762”,publicKeyToken=”1fc8b3 b9a1e18e3b”,processorArchitecture=”amd64”’. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070BC9. Assembly interface: IassemblyCacheItem, function: Commit, component: {837BF1EB-D770-94EB-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}

Note: The installation of VC++ rolls back when it fails.

    Solution:

Through this error I found this MSKB article:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946414

The Automated MS "Fix It" msi package didn’t work.

Note: Please backup your registry first (see the above MSKB article for instructions).

I opened the registry and (as instructed in the MSKB article) deleted the following keys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\

    • PendingXmlIdentifier
    • NextQueueEntryIndex
    • AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving

    Reboot and reinstall iTunes.

If it helps you please like this so others can find it.

Hey! Just remove Itunes, and reinstall the lastest version and all your music will be there! I just did it, no sweat:)

For Windows users. First make sure you uninstall iTunes. When you go to reinstall iTunes right click on the installer and choose "Run as Administrator". That should solve the issue.

For future searchers: The extract option no longer works as of Version 11. Here's the workaround I found.

    Go here: http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=48?download

Download old version. Go to your start button and find 'Apple Software Update.'

    Select. Run. Voila! All fixed!

The extraction method does still work, just used it with great results.

I have three different extractors - iobit, 7-zip and winRAR. Extract doesn't even show up in the options menu. Trying to manually extract it doesn't work - I have a brand 'new' laptop at factory setttings, installed all three - same result. It's not typical. I've seen many people complain of the same problem. There are different versions of windows and all of them have differing little bugs in each one.

    Hey,

i found an other really simple solution:

    1) Start

    2) run "services.msc"

    3) right click "Windows Modules Installer" start it up

    4) install Itunes

    5) end "Windows Modules Installer"

    6) Done

I have figured out a much easier way to fix this problem using WinRAR...

Just in case anyone found it difficult to do it the other way

Step 1: Download and install WinRAR if you haven't already.

Step 2: Right-click on the iTunes set up file iTunes64setup.exe.

Step 3: Click on " Open in WinRAR"

    Step 4: Right-click on the file AppleApplicationSupport.msi

Step 5: Select "Extract to the specified folder"

Step 6: Select Desktop at the top of the list to the right and click ok.

Step 7: Simply double-click the new install file that was added to the Desktop

Step 8: Follow the prompts and click finish and YOU'RE DONE! Your welcome

This can also be used for installing Bonjour in case you get that error when iTunes opens..

Thanks for the guidance. I am not a vista using Windows XP.  I have uninstalled, attempted reintall, changed my itunes library name, tried to upload the version 9 with no success.  I keep getting the Application Support was not found error.

I would be most grateful of any additional ideas anyone has.

    Thank you.

Much simpler... Right... Your's takes eight steps and about fifteen minutes on a standard computer.

Mine is three steps and takes two minutes.

    Not a hard decision.

Try searching for the application support file on it's own through an older website. You can find just about anything on the internet. The Application support file hasn't changed much in the past year or two - if you can find it, install it, then try the old iTunes install.

    Happy trails!

This method worked for me.  Thank you for posting! Tried the WinRAR method and somehow downloaded a bunch of spywear! Then I had to go through the hassle of removing the spyware. Your solution of dowloading the old version of itunes was much easier anyway.  I have another computer I can't open itunes on, so once I remove itunes and all related programs and reinstall intunes, if I get the Apple Application Support error, I will use your solution without wasting hours of time.
