I have just installed a new Canon Pixma mx879. When I go to print a Pages document, I don not get a choice of print quality. There is no drop down menu for print quality (but there is in Word) I am running an older version of Pages. Any suggestions?

Print quality is not set in Pages. have you read the Canon manual?

Yes, i have read the manual. What the manual describes works perfectly with Word but not in Pages. Canon say it's a problem with Pages - that's why I'm asking in this forum.

If you don't have an option for print quality with Pages there isn't one. i can't find it for Epson printer either.

I have an up to date version of Pages and an old (Snow Leopard) version of OSX. I have a different Canon printer than you, but print quality is set under "Quality & Media" in my print driver, which is also where the manual for your printer says you should find it. It is availlable when I print from Pages, and I am not sure how Pages could prevent a feature of the Canon driver from appearing. (On my Epson printer, it is under "Print Settings.")

It might be helpful in tracking down your problem if you mentioned what version of Pages you are using and what operating system, as well as how you are connecting to the printer.

I had an Epson for 5 years and had a similar problem. When my Epson fell apart I thought a new Canon would mean I could control the print quality. But sadly it doesn't seem to be possible. What is annoying is that it works ok in Word!

Thanks for your reply Jeff. I am running na old version of Pages ( Pages 08 version 3.0.3) As it works perfectly well for everything else and I don't have much money I'm reluctant to buy a new copy in the folorn hope it will allow me to control the print quality.

I wasn't really suggesting that you buy a new version of Pages, I was just trying to clarify that I can't test whether what you are seeing is normal.

It sounds like you are getting the Quality & Media option in the print driver when you print from Word, but it doesn't appear when you print from Pages. Is that correct?

What happens if you use the PDF menu in the bottom corner to "Open PDF in Preview" and try to print from there?

Have you downloaded from Canon the latest driver for your model?

Have you tried printing from another app than Pages and Word? If so, what is the result?

Jeff - thank you for that suggestion. I have just tried it - print as a pdf file and I can adjust the print quality. So thanks again. I wonder why it won't work directly from the pages menu? Anyway problem solved.
