I have a 1TB HD on my iMac.  I recently ugraded my RAM to the max of 16GB, and also added a 2 Tb external hard drive to do time machine backups and to help with file storage.  I figured this would help out with my lack of memory. It says I have used 992 GB of memory, even after moving the itunes library, photos, documents, and any other file I could move to the external hard drive.  I have run cleaners, reapired my disk, and frankly it shows 990 GB of memory being used under my user files, but won't show where!  There's no reason why my memory should be this used up...  HELP!!!!

I've never used Time Machine.  Is it possible that your Time Machine backups are being stored on your internal HD?

I thought that Time Machine backups had to go to a HD only used for the backups, and you couldn't store other items on it.

Also is it possible that you just copied your iTunes, photos, documents to the external HD, and didn't delete the originals from your internal HD?

Did you empty your trash, clear yor caches?

Also, this forum is for non-Intel based Macs.  You might get more help in the Intel-based iMacs forum.

    Good luck.
