Select all the affected clips, open the inspector (the "i" all the way to the right of the middle row of icons), go to the audio tab, and under Channel Configuration, open the drop-down and choose Dual Mono.

Thanks. I found however that as the clips were part of a multicam clip embedded in a compound clip that for the dual mono effect to come through, the multicam clip had to be deleted and repasted into the containing clip.

In fact, I had did a kind of refresh of the containing sequence by cutting it and then reextending it and the multicam stuff was ok after.
However, this doesn't always seem to work. I can't get the workflow right for Multicam. Going round in circles. See my other posts if you can.
