Question: I'm a new ipad user. I'm interested in transferring my Word files to the iPad. I have now downloaded Pages onto my PC. However, I don't understand how to use Pages on my PC. Is it all possible? If It is possible how do I transfer my Word files to the iPad.

Thank you.

    Through iCloud

To get Word documents onto your iPad - and use in Pages - you will need to use either iTunes to transfer them (http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/syncing/) or optionally:

    • Install Safari for windows and use that to access iCloud and upload documents, or
    • Install the iCloud Add in on your PC (allowing you to use IE or other browsers).

For file transfer, installing Safari may be the easiest option.(http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/documents/)

Basically you upload documents to iWork on the iCloud. Pages will automatically pick them up for downlaoding and editing.

Anotehr option to consider is a cloud service such as DropBox. It allows you to open files in any number of apps, including Pages.

Of the options offered, I tend to use DropBox more than any other, and occassionaly direct uploads to iCloud. I have a Mac at home, but do not have Pages installed on it. DropBox offers a bit more flexibility, IMHO. Free up to a certain point on terms of available space, but not all that expensive to extend. iCloud offers a bit more free content and integrates directly with iOS apps.

There is also some online help for the Pages app (including getting documents to/from it) here.

But first, if you haven't already done so, you will need to sync the Pages app to your iPad from your computer's iTunes : syncing apps (the page isn't maintained, but it appears to be still correct).

You might find this article to be worthwhile reading as well. Pages is a file sharing app and this explains how to use file sharing. This is one way that I move Pages/Word files from my computer to my iPad.

    This procedure would involve iTunes.
