what type of case did you use? Lead?
Most protectors or cases are made out of rubber, oder plastik. So these materials doesn't own any signal shielding abilities. I wonder how "removing this case" did help you oO
But I'm happy for you that you found a way that helps.
I know it's wierd..... ....It is a silver coated plastic. It looks metal but its not, with sparkle stuff on the back. Dont know the brand, i bought it at a kiosk at the mall, and immediately threw away the packaging.
Also, I put it on one of our black ones and within 30 seconds it dropped wifi. I dont know how, or why, and bummed about the $50 i spent on it, but happy to have my wifi back and that pos is in the trash.
Just thought i would share in case it helps someone else
But doesn't work in my case. Because of the 2 diefferent devices (iPhone 4S and an iPhone 5)
the 4S didn't have any WiFi Probs while running iOS 5.x
But immediately after installing iOS 6.0. and it was getting worse with 6.0.1.
the 5er was shipped with 6.0 and I believe that it won't work with 5.x. So I've to wait until 6.1 will be released.. 2nd beta was out on 12th of Nov. for the developer szene. Hope this version will fix this issue and come up soon
I have identical symptoms to yours! Mine is fine in work, on 3 different APs, but as soon as I come home it breaks again (connects to AP, but very poor connectivity). Switching the iPhone 5 off and on completely cures it until I next come home from work. I tried to recover it with Airplane mode and turning WiFi off and on, but neither seemed to help. Reset Network Settings helps too, but that seems to be almost a reboot anyway.
I get the problem in most apps, but it's easiest to test and demonstrate in the Speednet.net app. Sometimes I don't get as far as the Begin Test button, other times it gets stuck pinging the test server. If I do make it as far as the actual transfer tests it often starts at full speed and then simply stops sending or receiving data.
I'd be interested to hear how you got on with your network isolation test. I need to find a different public AP to connect to, to see if it has the same effect when I return home. I did also have problems with airport and hotel APs, but that was back on iOS 6.0 so it may be different now.
It has not solved the problem, it seems slightly better. This along with turning bluetooth off has reduced but not eliminated the need to reboot the phone.
I really just do not understand what is going on. The access point I have on it's own network was on it's own network at work the last 6 weeks and I never had a problem connecting to it and using it, but I bring it home and I have problems. Meanwhile, wife's phone, still no problems whatsoever no matter what I have set up here at home.

Tks for the tip !!! I did the same with mine and worked !! After read your msg I tried because my cover looks very similar...hard plastic but looking like metal, inside looks like a mirror, and shinning stuff in the back. Anyway..it should work with any cover, so I hope Apple fixes it A.S.A.P..
Maybe we should also add our location to see if the problems are worldwide.
I'm in Berkshire, England and bought mine from the Apple website.
My Iphone 5 works fine apart from the range seems less than my 3GS but it's never dropped a signal on my old Netgear DG834G v3 and D-Link DSL-2680 routers both using WPA2-PSK security.
I am having the same problem over here in Macedonia. At times the connection gets better, but mostly the transfer is low or almost Zero. I do also use my iPad and don't have any problem with the wifi. I live in FYR Macedonia, but the phone was bought in Switzerland.
I live in USA but now I am in Brazil, and I had this problem before but not as bad as I had here. I installed the 6.0.1 already and it seems the problem is not as bad as before, and after take my "plastic metal look" cover the wifi is much better and has been stable..do not ask my why..that answer MAYBE only Apple can give you..iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.1, WIFI PROBLEM SOLVED
I have travelled a lot lately with a Macbook Air and my new iphone 5. The Macbook Air picks up all wifi but the iphone 5 is inconsistent. At present in a major hotel in Bangkok is showing connected but retrieves no data. It worked in a resort last week. It did not work in a private Thai house last week where the laptop did.
Please Apple fix this.
Thank you but that means nothing to me as a non-techno person. When travelling you have no control over the routers if that's what you mean. Working in a cafe now but not in hotel with high speed Internet. MacBook Air works there fine.
