Go for the intel chipped MacBook. The PPC in the PowerMac is rapidly becoing or has become obsolete.

As dalstott says, the PPC chip is becoming obsolete and certainly will be in another 15 or 20 years. However, you're comparing apples to oranges. The Macbook (really a PC clone since it has the Intel cpu) is a fragile laptop, whereas the G5 you list is a very powerful workstation. The *only* thing to avoid with the G5 series is the liquid-cooled versions, and the dual 2 GHz isn't one of those.

    PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11), G4; G5; Dual-Core iMac.
