I am unable to change either the document or layout margins in a new page layout document I have created. I am left with the default 2cm margins both sides, which I am unable to reduce (or increase - I've tried not that I need wider margins).

I've already given up using Word to put together this simple newsletter and reverted to Pages and now it seems that this app will not allow me to do the simplest thing. I run the latest verion of Pages and have idiot-checked with the manuals and support pages - I am following thre simple instructions to the letter.

Please help!

In layout mode you cannot type directly on the page, you must use text boxes and/or shapes, therefore margins are irrelevant except for headers and footers, for which you can set margins.

If you set up a blank page with the guides (and anything else you will want on every page) the way you want them, then go

    Menu > Format > Advanced > Capture Pages…

you can "capture" and name your page so it will show up as one of the options under the Pages button on the tool bar. (Or from   Menu > Insert > Pages > .)

Walt, thanks for your help - though I don't share your view that margins become irrelevant!

Without them I will need to correctly position  guides on every page to ensure text boxes, pictures and graphics are correctly positioned in relation to the page edge.

Of course you are correct in that sense. I was referring to the ability to place the text boxes wherever you wanted them. Sorry for the ambiguity.

    Walt
