HT4889: OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mountain Lion and earlier

Learn about OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mountain Lion and earlier

HT4889 My old iMac has no thunderbolt port.  Is there any possibility to get a thunderbolt-firewire cable or converter to migrate documents to my new iMac or it has to be either thunderbolt or firewire cable only.

My old iMac (2011) has no thunderbolt port and the latest iMac I intend to purchase has no firewire port.  Is there any possibility to get a thunderbolt-firewire cable or a converter to migrate documents to the newer iMac or exclusively thunderbolt or firewire cable only should be use when migrating between two machines.

Please let know any thought you may have before I go for the new one which may cause more hassle as it has no disk drive to help me install most of my app.

Kind Regards

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
