Screen sharing not working in mountain lion

    This problem is killing me. The 7 server machines I need to access are in 7 different countries, with no technial expertise on location. And the irony is that I can't access them to make any of the changes you are all suggesting. Hoping to find somebody on location today and use TeamViewer to get to the server but I'm not confident I'll even be able to do that.

     

    Maybe it's time for an extended business trip. Does anybody know if those expenses are covered by Apple Care?

    After a frustrating 2 hour call on why airplay in Mountain Lion did not work properly  -  - i was told to connect via ethernet cable to identify the issue. Ethernet Cable - in my household they went the way of dinosaurs as the one feature that made me upgrade to mountain lion was the ability to use airplay wirelessly - without having to connect the $60 Apple cable to my HDTV anymore. I do not even know the last time I had an ethernet cabe in my hands.

     

    The fact that nowhere in your literature as of this morning requested an ethernet cable as part of the specification for use of the features of Mountain Lion basically equates to false advertising - either that or the MacBook Pro you sold me lack some of the functions that you were supposed to provide - I would like to know how are you going to fix this situation that does not require me to waste any more of my billable time with you.

    I am having issues with my mouse pointer when I use screen sharing. I have two macs - (1) a mid 2010 MP with 16GB ram OS 10.8.2 and (2) a late 2011 MBP with 16GB ram OS 10.8.2

     

    The issue only occurs when I use the MP as a host and my MBP as a client. It does not happen when I use the MBP as a host and MP as a client.

     

    The mouse pointer issue: When I run screen sharing on the MP and I move my mouse over to the shared screen it acts normally until I click on any element within the shared screen desktop. Once I click within the share screen area the mouse pointer freezes on the shared screen and my "movable mouse pointer" goes and disappears into the background desktop of the host. To regain my mouse pointer movement I have to move the pointer (which is invisble underneath the shared screen desktop) anywhere outside the physical boarder of the shared screen desktop. Once I have done that I regain control and can click on another item on the shared desktop. But once I click on anything it disappears again. This is very, very anoying.

     

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    This problem is driving me mad. This is my scenario: I have a Mac mini running on Mountain Lion 10.8.2 with Screen Sharing enabled. This Mac mini is connected to a local LAN and connected with an ethernet cable, static address. In this very LAN I also have a Linux machine, also having a static address, from which I am trying to access the Mac mini by using a VNC client. Furthermore, in this LAN are also connected, to the same router and through WiFi, a notebook (in which it running Linux and Windows), an iPhone and an Android phone.

    If I try to access the Mac VNC from the Linux machine, it runs painfully slow, unusable in any way. In case I access the Mac VNC server from any of the WiFi connected devices, it runs smoothly and very fast. In other words, whenever I access the VNC server from a cable connected machine, it runs very slow, in case I access the server with a WiFi connected device, everything works fine.

    I already tried many VNC clients, all giving the same result, even with different settings.

     

    Any suggestion of help very appreciated.

    not necessarily a fix for everone, but...

     

    - Macs now on 10.8.2 Supplemental Update seems to have fixed the issue (for me).

    it was just something that came up in my Software Update a day or two after upgrading to 10.8.2

    I had a connectivity problem with a early 2010 MBP with Lion OS that may shed some light on your screen sharing speed issue.

     

    I traced the problem to having both a "wired" and "wireless" connection to the LAN and this is what caused the speed connection degradation. Once I turned off the "wireless" connection on the taskbar the issue went away.

     

    Or it could be that there is a conflict somehow with your WiFi adapter. Try borrowing a buddy's USB Wifi adapter and see if you still have speed issue. If it clears it up, it's the old WiFi adapter causing the issue.

     

    Screensharing is great when it works.

    I am trying to share my screen in SKYPE (on a new Retina screen with Mountain Lion) with my students. They are able to share with me; but my screen will not share. The program "thinks" it is sharing because the option is to Stop Sharing on the menu; but my students just see a blank screen.

     

    I have been able to share my screen in Skype, and still can, from my previous MacBook Pro with Lion (not Mountain Lion); but since my students are using CS6, I have to use the newest laptop which has my CS6  (one copy supplied by my school).

     

    MAC Support says it is not an Apple issue! They said I would have to find out why from SKYPE. It appears to me that this is an issue with Mountain Lion or with the retina screen. HELP! I need to share my screen with students! Does anyone know of other programs for sharing screens that will work with Mountain Lion and a Retina screen?

     

    I have to use this new Powerbook since it is the only laptop with CS6 programs.

    I have a new headless mac mini server 10.8.2

     

    When I reboot the server, I can not access the server in any way until I connect a keyboard and login to the mac.  Once I login, then I can access the file server from another mac via AFP or SMB and screen sharing or remote desktop.

     

    This is a huge problem.

     

    Anyone seen this problem?

    Hi,

     

    This worked for me.  I created an alias to the screen sharing program. (i.e.  /System/Library/CoreServices/Screen Sharing.app) and placed it on the desktop.  When i ran it, I got a prompt for the machine address.  Key in the IP address of the machine you want to connect to (e.g. 192.168.1.xxx) and it worked every time. 

     

    This seemed to work both locally and via VPN from overseas.  i hadn't managed to get it to work when using the standard <connect to server> or connecting from the "Shared" list in Finder.

    Hello,

     

    It's still broken here even after 10.8.2 and none of the suggested work arounds work.  I just got through with a clean install of ML.  As reported by other folks, it didn't have any effect on the problem.

     

    So if you're considering a reinstall, I wouldn't bother.

    This really is the gag of the century. This: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19222941#19222941 really is the only solution that works.

     

    But that is not a solution, it's a workaround. And i'm using a mac because i don't want to deal wit stuff like that. I could easily save some money and work with linux if i wanted to hack around on the console.

     

    My headless mac server (thats what apple sells it for) is unreachable until i kill the screensharing processes via SSH. (mini is 10.7(latest) and my Macbook is 10.8.2)

     

    Apple needs to fix that soon !!!

    In System Preferences > Users and Groups set the Mac mini to automatically login on startup.
