Just wondering if there is a way to reverse default window preferences for iMessage. I like having each chat window separate (like the old iChat). Please let me know.

Thanks!

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)

There's already iMessage for Windows. I have downloaded it yesterday and it works flawless. The website seems pretty new so the programm can't be that old.

I downloaded it from here: http://imessageforwindows.com

    HI,

    Yes and no.

You can double click the Chat window and it will separate out.

You can close the main Messages (CMD + 0 in the Window menu to make it appear.)

However it seems any new messages make the Messages window reappear and the chat to be in both windows.  (or at least I have not found a  way yet)

    Hi Carlo,

Only the second email from Apple overnight since I last posted and it happens to be you again.

That box only separates out the Buddy Lists (IF you have more than the Bonjour one Enabled, such as an AIM or a Jabber Login).

    The Original Questioner wants this.

When I last tested this in Messages version 7 the Main Chat "Messages" window could be closed but would return to view if new IM were received.

That does not happen in Version 7.0.1 (the OS X 10.8.2 update is obviously needed)

This is my first day on Lion or Tiger or whatever Apple is calling their latest & greatest, and I confess I'm sharing the same frustration as Maggie and others on other discussion pages: Why does Apple have to mess with these platforms when they upgrade. I need to monitor and respond to different chats. The old version - where each discussion was in a separate box, and I didn't have these little ballons popping up in the upper right corner of my screen - worked great for that. The new version, where everything is in one window that can't be shrunk beyond a certain size, is a clear disappointment.

    Hi,

I would use the feedback page

I have linked you to the iChat Feedback page as Messages (in Mountain Lion)  is built on the iCHat Engine and continues the Version numbering system calling itself version 7.x.x

The page is several OS X versions adrift when compared to the iChat version what woefully lag behind (and have done since iChat 4 at least).

You have to enter the details in the free text area.
