i still believe this is caused by 4 issues.

    1) Push (issue with the code)

    2) Power Management (Device does not go into standby properly)

    3) Signal Strength (iPhone 5 generally has 1 bar less then an iPhone 4)

    3) Battery (Is it too small for the new CPU?

I went to the insane extreme. I saw that "webbookmarksd" and "dataaccessd" processes never stopped. They ran in the background until you shut the phone off again. So I had to figure out what was using them. For me it was Safari, iCloud, mail, and Facebook integration. That's all I've noticed so far that uses those two processes.  As I said, I went to the extreme so that those don't run anymore. I disabled safari in restrictions. I downloaded "sparrow" mail app. I also downloaded google chrome. I set up Facebook integration and the dataaccessd process came back. I got rid of that. Having iCloud at ALL will cause these to run. I synced my contacts from iTunes. It honestly seems like the battery is doing better. This is brand new though so I can't be sure but.. I can be sure that those processes are huge drainers for the battery.. So lets see...

First I'd like to thank John Mul for his post in response to mine, which got me thinking about build states.  I spoke to one of the tech supervisors at Apple support. I had noticed that my phone was polling every 5 seconds.   I was convinced the problem wasn't the phone but in 6.0.1 and the way that it interacts with backup configurations following a restore.

This is an iPhone 4, which has worked fine with ios6 and then 6.0.1 lost a full charge with no use in 8 hours in a GPRS area.  Later, it lost 20+% in one 7 minute call.

So, I did a factory reset and update, and created a new "phone" profile.  I restored my data from iCloud and apps from iTunes.  The frequent polling has stopped completely.  In 8 hours of standby, my phone has gone from 100% charged to 97% charged.  I smiled.

My conclusion.  Either the download corrupted or something in my backup, probably caused by an an app, had reacted badly to a config change in 6.0.1.

Whether you believe the logic or not, at least building on a clean base gives you something else to try.

    Thanks again John.

This doesn't let Apple designers and testers off the hook, of course, particularly when it comes to policing the App Store.  But I am really impressed with Apple support in the US and in Europe.

I had the same problem. After lots of research. Reset my iPhone - using option to erase everything. And select option to set up a new phone then restore from iCloud and irunes. Really worked well for me

Does anybody have any idea why the "webbookmarksd" process starts running every time you change your network? The phone is running verrrryy smoothly without it in the background and then I change from 4G to LTE and it starts running. I have to turn my phone off and on to get rid of it. Do any of you guys know why this is and how I can stop it? Thanks!!

Watch out for Privacy/Location Services.  I had it switched to ON (with everything, including ALL of the system services switched to off).  It appears that even though everything was switched "off", location services were running in the backround the whole time.  My phone was so hot and dropping battery very fast.  Just something to look out for.

My iPhone 4 had terrible battery life after 6.0.1 update.

    1. I cleared the Safari cache/history - didn't seem to help.
    2. In Settings I went to General/Reset/Reset All Settings - I didn't notice a difference.
    3. I turned off Settings/Privacy/Location services - battery life was back to normal.
    4. Later, I needed to turn location services back on to use the Maps app. I left location services on with only Maps and Find My iPhone authorized but the battery drained fast again. Turned off Find My iPhone location services and left Maps's on and my battery life is back to normal. (I guess to fully work it out I should turn on Find My iPhone location service authorization again and see if my battery drains - will have to wait for a day I can recharge if I need to.)

Could the problem be Location services for Find My iPhone? or was that a coincidence and the reset was the fix?

Thanks to all the people who posted on this thread - your ideas helped me monkey around and fix my phone!

ILoveiPhone85, see if the below helps:

AlwaysLooking4Answers, it's more likely to do with Location Services > System Services i have all those off as they are really just for Apple to gather data.

@Player : The thing is... I don't use icloud... I have a brand new phone with brand new software on it.  I never activated icloud.  I synced my contacts on itunes from my mac address book. I disabled safari.  The only time webbookmarksd is showing up is when I switch networks on my phone.  When I go from 4g to LTE, LTE to Wifi etc etc... I have to restart my phone every time i switch networks for that process to go away...and it's a battery draining process... So do you know how to get rid of that situation? Thanks!!

i swapped my phone yesterday, but i don't think that did a thing..

also, i switched from gmail push setup as exchange to gmail setup with fetch today.. and I got the best battery usage i've had yet. which is still crap.

What I have been seeing today/tonight is appalling. They should be mortified with this software! The things that are running in the background completely draining the battery and overheating the phone are crazy!

*webbookmarksd: I have safari disabled, no iCloud. Yet, this battery eating process keeps popping up.

*dataaccessd: this one is huge, too. I got rid of this by using a mail app called sparrow. Having my me.com and aol.com email set up in the iPhone mail app was causing this process to run non stop even with the app closed. (Facebook integration sets it off too)

*geod: this, I have to assume is location?? Well this one is crazy. All of my location services are OFF. Very system service OFF. Everything is OFF but this process is popping up and BURNING my phone. It gets so hot!!!

I have absolutely no doubt that the battery WILL drain because its a hardcore device but these things that are running without you even knowing, are killing the battery DOUBLE TIME! APPLE should be so embarrassed. There is NO reason that this shouldn't be fixed by now! WHAT IS GOING ON!?!

    Hi AlwaysLookin4Answers / ILoveiPhone85

The link below has a solution for the "webbookmarksd" issue.

Thanks playa. Ill check that out!

In other news: I just got a text from AT&T telling me that I was about to go over my 5GBs for the month. Awesome. Considering I definitely haven't used that much.

Number 1 for me is definitely false (not saying it is for everyone else). Yesterday I thought id try push out and see if it would affect my battery life and I got a decent 14 hours standby and 6 hours usage on 3G. Turned all my accounts to fetch today and its been terrible, like it had been before. Ive turned them back on to push and low and behold my batteries fine again.

    Hi,

    I posted about 30 pages back best practice in charging routines for Lithium Ion batteries which I will see if I can dig up and post the link to them. I used this routine when I got my Iphone and will continue to use it as best I can. Its basically this;

    Charge Rotation

1st Charge - Let the battery % drop to approx.20% and recharge to 100%

2nd Charge - Let the battery % drop to approx.80% and recharge to 100%

3rd Charge - Let the battery % drop to approx.80% and recharge to 100%

4th Charge - Let the battery % drop to approx.80% and recharge to 100%

Rotation Complete, restart from "1st Charge".

I shall try dig out the old post on battery treatment and charging routines for ya.

    Best Regards

    John

John, is this during one day or over a few days? Do you recommend we use this routine everyday if we have the time?
