I (actually my brother) have a problem with iMessage and its handling of messages. When I send a message to my brother (to his MacBook Pro latest software updates), the notification message pop up in right up corner, however, it doesn't appear in the dock icon. And when he opens the imessage, the message is sometimes missing. Also it sometimes doesn't sort the messages by date/time. Once he also send me picture, that the iMessage shown "-2" messages.

My iMessage works just fine.

Do you have any idea, how to fix it? Maybe somehow resetup? Or something?

He should go to the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Folder and type in ~/Library/Preferences

In the Preferences Folder he should find and Drag it to the trash

    He should then Restart Messages.

This will sort the issue in the pic.

That itself is probably related to the non  appearance of the counter on new messages.

I am not sure at this stage about the lack of the message now and then (having been alerted)

The Date/Time order/Sync process is an issue we know about.

It seems if you have an iOS device there is no issue on those.

On the Mac, particularly if it has been Off line the "Sync" process that displays the iMessages plays out like a speeded up chat.

However if you were in conversation on an iPhone and switch to the Mac an new Messages arrive instantly and out of order with the sync process.

It seems the App cannot or does not use the Time Stamps to sort them into proper order.
