how to turn off startup sound on iMac desktop ?

can anybody tell me how to turn off the annoying sound on startup with the Imac ?

i cannot find it anywhere in the setup.

    Mute your computer before you shut it down.


    Incidentally, that "annoying sound" is an audible notification that the Mac has successfully performed self-tests on startup.  If you get anything other than a single chime, you have trouble.

    I understand but does the notification have to be audible? Also, is Mac so ustable to the degree that it has to play the sound each time it starts as if it was a big deal? I know of no other device or computer OS that is so excited when it successfully starts up.
