Q: your computer restarted because of a problem

My 2010 MacBook Pro keeps restarting on its own. It flashes to a blank white screen then it says something like "Your computer restarted because of a problem. Press any key to continue or a wait a couple minutes for it to reboot." I don't remember exact words but it is something close to that. This seems to mainly be happening when viewing pictures or videos, at first it would only do it every once in a while but recently it has become a rather common occurance and needless to say it is pretty irritating especially because what it tells me when it restarts explains nothing to me about why the computer is restarting. I'm not sure if it is possibly just a bug with Mountain Lion or what it could be but any sort of help would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Dylan

I am on vacation and when I try to play my videos the computer restarts, open iPhoto the computer restarts.

I have the same problem with a MacPro 1.1 running Lion so the issue is not only with ML. it only started a few days ago. only happens if I do the quick shut down (CNT OPT COM DEL) shuts down fine from the apple menu

If you have a crash report, please post a brand new question with your specific report.

The various crash reports detailed in this thread include three or four different versions of Mac OS X, two or three that were caused by ill-conceived anti-virus utilities, two or three caused by incompatible hardware, and perhaps two that may be legitimate Apple hardware faults.

Since these are different causes, all require different remedial action.

If you want assistance, please post a new question and you will get it. Tagging on to this old thread will not accomplish a thing.

    Thanks!
