So I want to buy a laptop to burn/stream/download music and movies. I went to apple store/ best buys and future shop. Each seem to give me conflicting stories on whether a Mac book pro was my best choice with regards to virus protection and simplicity to use. I like the Mac but can get a PC for same price with more memory and solid state drive
which best buys says is way better than the Mac book.
They also say if i get the mac i still need an antivirus installed on the machine.
This directly conflicts others who say you do not need anything for It. Im so confused as i want something I won't need to worry about or replace due to viruses or crapy workmanship. Does anyone have problems with downloading/streaming and viruses ??
Or suggestions to make my search easier ?

Thank you for your reply. I posted the question on here hoping that honest answers would come from someone not trying to make a buck :) so just wondering if you download a lot of free movies and music without virus problems. If I understand correctly without virus protection. Oh and does the solid state drive a big advantage. From your experience do macs hold up pretty well in that department ?
Virus problems are more or less non-existent on the mac at the moment. Having said that, if you are downloading free stuff from questionable/illegal sources, you can expect to encounter malware eventually. Not viruses per se, but programs which will cause you grief.
I have a SSD in my MacBook Pro. The performance increase is VERY noticeable. Lots of RAM helps, too.
Oh ok. I was online looking and the Mac box pro 13 inch for 1199 doesn't have the SSD I guess. It has 500 mb of memory. Now it says its 200 $ for 128 mb SSD. But that would mean I would have less memory right. And for movie downloading I would assume I need a lot of memory. To be honest I don't know if I'm
Even taking about the same thing ( memory for saving or speed of computer). Do you think the standard drive would be all someone would need for my applications. Ps. Thank you for replying and patients with my dumb questions
