hmmm the origional video is on my desktop. I copied it from my camera to my desktop, and than I imported it into final cut from my desktop. When I play the origional file from my desktop (or the one from the fcp event origional folder) in quicktime it runs well.

It looks like you may have an alias in the Desktop, and the actual video may be in that strange path - one where you should not store any of your documents.
Select the movie file in the Desktop in Finder and do a get info (Cmd-I). What does it say under "Kind"? Alias, or Quicktime Movie?

I asked about "apples" and you answered "oranges"...
hmm it says /Users/Devon/Desktop
Anyways, still no ideas on the slow runningin FCP? I guess I will just have to optimize everything... even though i shouldn't need to
I asked about kind, not location. I have two files on my desktop. One is an alias, the other an actual quicktime movie. Notice the difference in both kind and size.
