sorry for my crankiness. i've been a Mac customer since 1987. since i bought my most recent iMac a few years ago, i've had nothing but trouble and the thing is, i bought it specifically for video and multimedia use. i could've just used my old Powerbook if i'd known that Apple's stuff would fail so consistently.
i had a rotten optical drive when i first got the iMac. i knew it. they wasted tons of my time in Apple support, making me do this and that. hours and hours, over multiple phone calls. iDVD failing, iMovie barfing out, etc. i took the Mac into their experts twice.
a year and a half later --- after i struggled to use that machine for my Masters in Fine Arts thesis, several performances, and art projects --- they finally replaced the machine. this is the New Apple and i do not like it.

Don't you think it might have been a good idea to mention what camera you are attmpting to use?
Also, it would be quite interesting to know what Mac you have.
