I'm not sure of what you are describing.
Can you explain specifically what the problem is.
What folder? What is the arrangement and sort for that folder?
Is there a way to restore computer functionality by making the bar above the files clickable evrywhere for all folders?
Can you describe the bar so I can understand what you are talking about?

the arrangment is whatever i choose under a far separate icon in the finder window named arrange. clicking on the finder bar column itself does not allow the same accessible changes to happen. it is difficult to discertain which folders this affects, the applications folder definetly, there are several other folders which now seem hidden altogether.

Set Arrange to "None". Then you can Sort by clicking on column heads. Here is an article to read.

You can't just paste a picture into this forum. You have to use the camera button.
If you have an arrangement set, you get what you get. If you want to sort, hold down the option key and click the same button, you can then sort the groups (arrangements) by whatever you choose.
However, if you just want to sort, then do as Jeffrey Jones2 stated and set the arrangement to None. Then, you can use List view to sort by the column headers, or use the option key to get to the sort options from the button or the menus.
