1. How are you connecting to this VPN? You have to have an internet connection, or dial up, or something to go across to get to the VPN server. And if that is the case then you should have internet access for ATV to connect though.
2. I can pretty much garentee you that using your work VPN access to stream video though for personal entertainment use is a major violation of the TOS of their net work. That is assumeing they do not have sites like Netflix, Hulu, and iCloud blocked.
3. Trying to do streaming video, specially HD streaming video, is extreamly resource intesive by it self. It is much worse when the stream is being encrypted and then decyrpted on both ends making even slower. So even if you do get this working I doubt it would work well.
If you want other devices in your house to use this VPN connection your computer is using you either need to setup the VPN client as a split tunnle, or have a front end router that can make the VPN connection. And then all the devices that connect to it could use the VPN connection.
Hi Brian, yes I connect via VPN to internet with an student user name and password that I have to enter every time I connect.. I dont have a router that make the connection for me but I do have a common router that gives me the signal and then I connect via VPN.
I dont think that streaming videos is blocked is this VPN connection since I always can watch whatever I want in my computer.
If I dont have this router to make the VPN connection that you mentioned, IS it possible for me to do something and connect the AppleTV to internet?... You said something about setting up the VPN client as a split tunnel. How can I do that??
Thank you very much for your answers:))))
>I connect via VPN to internet with an student user name and password
But my question was how do you connect to the VPN? There has to be some connection to get you TO this VPN. You said you are doing this from home. So some how you have to be connecting to the university to get to this VPN to login. So how is that happening. Do you have internet service at the house and connecting over it to get to this VPN? If so you already have internet access.
>I dont think that streaming videos is blocked
That does not in any way mean it is not a terms of service violation.
>I dont have a router that make the connection for me but I do have a common router
So do you or do you not have a router?
Ahh ok.. The connection is owned by the University because the Residence is from the University. I dont know how it works.
I have my own router where I plug the internet cable that comes from the wall. That give me a wiifi signal that my computer takes. Then I made the VPN settings in my PC in order to be able to connect. Giving the server name, my student user name, password etc.
If I wouldn't have a router then I would need to connect direct from the internet cable that I plug in the wall to my computer.
What I said I dont have is a VPN router that make the VPN connection since in your first message you mentioned that I might need a "..front end router that can make the VPN connection. And then all the devices that connect to it could use the VPN connection..."
So sorry I dont know how to explain my situation very well since I am not use so much to this terms and computer concepts.
But, do you understand how I connect in my place now?
Is it possible to fix it?
