If you are accessing the internet, you are on a network. The question is how are you accessing the internet?

How many other people are sharing your internet connection? It is their computers you are seeing. If you have not Shared your internet connection with anyone, that you know of, then maybe they have hacked into the Wireless side of your Modem/Router.

This is the only computer on my internet connection. And my airport stopped working (another problem) so I am now directly hooked up to the modem ( not wireless). If I contact my internet provider, can they do anything? Thinking crossed wire or some thing.

What type of broadband service do you have? If it is cable then more then likely the modem is just that, Just a Modem with no router.
If your computer is getting an IP in any other range then 192. or 172. or 10. then you are getting a Public IP address from the modem, which IMHO is Not Good.
If the above is the case then those other entries are other people doing basically the same as you, connecting there computers directly to the modem.
Contacting your ISP would help. you need to buy a New router to isolate you from the internet.
If you are on DSL then the modem is more then likely a router also. Modem/router combo and it is that unit that has been hacked in some way. Most all DSL modem have a built in router and most of the time a wireless side.

I noticed this when I disconnected my Airport ( see other discussion re this) due to a connection/compatibi;ity problem. Now that I have the airport going again and computer connected wirelessly , I no longer see these other computers on the Finder . I am going to talk with my ISP tho' as they had shut me down last month for using 800 GB which was totally not possible. FYI we have the old fashioned telephone wire to the house with modem hooked up. The company does offer a modem with wireless router but I had already purchased the airport. My wi-fi network address starts with 10.
Anyway , I really appreciate your time and advice. Thanks!
