I have a new Mac Mini and the update for 10.8.2 does not appear. I tried the direct link and that won't install.

It is very frustrating as I cannot install any applications that require 10.8.2 such as iPhoto.

I've also tried correcting disk permissions, but that made no difference. Somebody mentioned it might be a Mac Mini specific issue, and that the update is not available, however that seems very strange with it being so long after the update was released.

    Hi All

Just had a long talk with apple care guy who says they found an issue with 10.8.2 update on some of the newer Macs and it has been temporarily removed. He said they are working on it and didn't expect it to be long.

    Cheers

Same issue here - brand new Macbook Pro 13 inch retina, unable to see the update in App Store,

unable to install Combo Update. Hoping for a fix from Apple.

    Hi,

    (This reply is for mischaxxx)

I bought 14 Mac Minis 2 weeks ago for my office and on 6 of them, I was able to install the 10.8.2 update. But, yesterday on the next Mini in line for setting up, I could not install it hence my original post. So as others have stated the problem began yesterday and has nothing to do with the update not being for late 2012 models. The combo update would not install either.

    Wow.

This is my first foray back into the world of Mac since the late 80s, and it seems like my timing was not so hot.  Although not being able to update or use iPhoto is not really a huge deal for me right now, it definitely does make me question all the soapboxers who espouse the 'ease of use' advantage with OS X.  Windows will happily let you install bad updates all day long if you like

And not that it helps at all, but I am at least a little happy that it is not just me or my mini with the problem.  Seems like a big enough issue that a fix should be issued quickly.  And on the bright side, I have learned quite a bit about troubleshooting OS X this morning.  Not the day one experience I was expecting, but definitely an experience.

It appears that Apple's pulled the update for these new machines or whatever they came with originally is totally borked. All I can suggest is to contact Apple's Express Lane and see what you can determine. Until Apple owns up to this fiasco, no sense beating the wall with your head.

Setting up brand new mac mini. Similar story as the rest. Trying to synch multiple devices (iphone, ipad, mac mini) with Cloud for Mail. Don't care about Iphoto but thats the update thats hanging. Cmon Apple, get this fixed!

Phoned up Express Lane. They said they're working on an update but in the meantime there are no workarounds, unless you have a DVD with the old version of iPhoto on it.

I have a brand new Macbook Pro 13.3" Retina and like everyone else have run into the same issues.  The 10.8.2 is not appearing in my software update listing.  I downloaded the 10.8.2 Combo and it refuses to install.  From what I am hearing I am probably better off that 10.8.2 did not load up until after Apple fixes whatever the various issues are with it.

I phoned Apple Support and was advised that they are working on the fix and expect within a few days the update should be available to affect machines such as mine.

This is my first ever Mac.  In fact, I only recently moved to an iPhone, iPad, and now a Mac all this year.  For 20+ years prior I was a diehard PC and recently Android owner.  I'm not letting this update issue affect me since so far aside from that issue I am loving my new Mac.  My PC has Windows 8 on it and really I am not impressed.  OS X functionality and layout seems so much more intuitive and well thought out as compared to Windows 8.  I feel like Windows 8 tried to turn my PC into a giant sized phone or tablet.  I get the idea but the execution at this point seems clumbsy at best.  OS X seems to me to be way ahead of where Windows is trying to go.

I would suggest to Apple that while it is good they are not letting people load a buggy upgrade, they should allow the Software Update screen to shows 10.8.2 as pending revision and perhaps provide a brief explanation there for users that are looking for it or wanting to upgrade other apps like iPhoto.  Lack of communication makes users think that they are asleep at the switch or attempting to hide something.  Better they just tell it like it is... I know I would respect that more than having to hunt for answers on what is an otherwise known issue to Apple.

A number of people are mentioning that this is their first mac experience and wondering if this type of thing is a common occurrence.  I think it is worth stating that this is the first time I've ever seen anything like this - I've been mac-only across many different OS versions and machines for the last 6 years or so.   I'm no fanboy and Macs certainly aren't perfect, but the software update from my experience is almost always extremely rock solid.

It doesn't excuse it though;  the should at minimum remove any dependant updates (like iPhoto) from being visible until this is resolved.

Thanks for the info.  Definitely glad this is not a common occurrence!

I'm having the same problem. I purchased the new 13" retina MacBook Pro for University and switched from my 2012 13" MacBook Air. Did a Time Capsule restore. For whatever reason it keeps the 10.8.1 update on the rMBP and now I can't even open up iPhoto...what the ****? I hope there is a fix coming soon!

Well. I'm from Portugal and the problem is not different. I bought yesterday the new 13" retina display and transfered all the content from my previous 2008 Macbook Air.

It comes with the os 10.8.1 and the upgrad for 10.8.2 is just impossible.

However, now i'm a little bit comfortable to know that this is a common problem from many people all over the world.

I hope a resolution as soon as possible.
