Terence, I would not have posted if it were a reasonable downgrade in size. But a 8MB image coming out as less than 200KB after only cropping a small amount is not.
I am working in iPhoto (obviously) and using the "export" function to place photos from an album into a folder on my hard drive.

That does seem like a over reduction in file size. What quality level are you setting in the export process? Make sure it's not set to a low levle from an earlier export. Actually, setting it to Maximum seems to create a file size larger than the original file which is strange in itself. What size do you get if you just drag the copped thumbnail to the Desktop?

Here's the thing: we have all sort of people with wildly varying levels of knowledge posting in the forum. If you don't tell us enough information how can we assume what you consider "a reasonable downgrade size"?

Thank you! With dragging and dropping, the file is 1.5MB, and while it hadn't occurred to me, the file sizes after export are indeed much larger than the oriiginals. Since I will need to email these files, having the overblown sizes would have caused additional issues. Thank you for bringing that to my attention as well!
