I had the same issue with few horizontal lines that look jagged and the edges of any windows that are open distort for a brief second.
however i found today the solution. i may be luck but it worked for me. I opened my autocad version 2013 updated it and suddenly the horizontal lines by switching desktops dissapeared.
So that make me think that it could be an program issue interfering with mountain lion.
check all your programs you recently installed and update them.

You have just stumbled onto something...Interestingly enough guess what app I also have installed on my iMac that isn't on any of my other machines?? Ding ding ding..you got it, AUTOCAD 2013!!
After reading your reply I immediately logged on and opened up AutoCAD and checked to see if it was up to date. It says it is. I closed the app and swiped to the next desktop and for the first time in months, no distortion or jagged lines. I rarely ever use AutoCAD and primarly use to open and view plans from others but I primarely work in Photoshop and occasionally Solidworks. Worst case scenario I will move the app to an external disk and see how it runs from there. Luckily, the app is licensed through my employer and I didn't have to shell out big bucks for it. The computer is mine though and I was starting to worry that it may be a failing piece of hardware in my machine. Now at least I know the culprit.
Countless thanks to you!!!

I have the exact same issue, also with Autocad. I'm going crazy, because can't find any solution.
In addition, I get the same glitch while playing a video on VLC.
Anybody has found any hint to solve it?

TaDeX.. I opened up AutoCAD and updated to the most recent version and then closed AutoCAD. Immediately I could scroll left and right between desktop workspaces without the glitches I was having for months prior. I've restarted the iMac many times since then and I haven't been able to duplicate the problem. I hope this is something that helps you. Also be sure that OSX and all of its apps are up to date.
