I assume that you are a Windows user, so try again but temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus software before you try again.
If you continue to have no success restoring this way, Yoy can try recovery mode and see if it will restore that way. Sometimes you have to perform the steps a few times in order to get recovery mode to work so don't give up after the first try.

I don't think anybody understands what I'm saying. trust me, I tried many times.I cant get into the home screen on my ipad. its jus tthe apple logo and i tried restoring it and when i do, it doesnt let me update the software and even after i still cant get the the home screen. I don't know if it's broken or something.

I understand what you are saying. The iPad will not start up. It's pretty clear really. I was merely suggesting to try restoring again. How can I possibly know that you "tried many times".. in your words. Nobody here has anyway of knowing exactly what you did, or how many times you tried it unless you tell us - which you have now done.
It is possible that the device is shot. If you can't restore with recovery mode, there isn't much else to try.
But if you think that nobody understands what you are explaining, take it to an Apple Store and let them look at it and see what they say.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

If the reset doesn't work, try and force the iPad into Recovery Mode:
1. Turn off iPad
2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
5. Release the Home button
6. Open iTune
7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad
