    You are correct.

The restore will wipe it and if there is no backup, you will be starting from scratch. You can sync the content in iTunes back to the iPad or you will have to download all of her content again if it is not in iTunes, but all data associated with the content will be lost.

Are you sure there is no backups? Without connecting the iPad to the computer - Launch iTunes and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices. Do you see a backup in there for her iPad? If you do, you can restore from that backup after you restore the iPad iOS.

Since I'm new to this could you tell a person where to look in iTunes since I don't see it under Edit>Preferences>Devices.

in the top left corner and only on Windows pc

on the mac it will be under Itunes, preferences, Devices.

It also may be in icloud if you have used back up in the cloud before.

Ya I found it on the Mac and got the iPad backed up, but since I have two Mac's I'm considering backing up to both and even considering backing it up to the PC. One can never be to carefull.

Just enable icloud back up. your own back ups will quickly become outdated, Icloud backs up automatically every 24 hours, For  example when you charge overnight.

The only problem that I see with this option is if you need to get at iCloud to reinstall your setting since lets say that your settings have got messed up with an update to the OS and you can't get your iPad to connect to the net, your basically out of luck, but if you do it locally you still have a chance of correcting the problem from iTunes.

    Just like to be cautious.
