I am an experienced apple user and have been an apple user since the 1980s, and I'm on my fourth Mac Mini which I have upgraded every so often since the original came out.   I'm very familiar with the OS and hardware.    Randomly the screen goes completely black when I'm working on the computer.   Hot corners are all turned off.   It happens with various software applications.   I have the latest OS updates.   I searched the support site and it seems others have this problem as well, and somebody even took it to the Genius Bar.   However, despite the prevalence of this problem, I haven't received word from Apple on whether a fix is in process, or what can be done.   I'm considering returning the product.   The lack of communication is a bit frustrating - they obviously know about the problem, and they know who has registered the product, so a bit of a heads up on what's going on would be nice.

We here in the forum are just other user's like yourself and while Apple may tune from time to time, they do not respond to questions here.

Your best bet is to contact Apple Support and/or send feedback directly to them and report the problem..

I haven't had mine go black (other than the screen saver), but I have had it go 'snowy' on me.  I don't know if this is related to your issue or completely different.  I've been able to resolve it by unplugging the video and plugging it back in, but still seems to be the sign that something is not right.  I know they pulled down the 10.8.2 patch for the late 2012 desktops and I heard some say it may have been due to a bad video driver in that patch.  Are you at 10.8.1 or 8.2?

Just got 2 Mac Mini and saw that problem today on both of them. I access them thru remote desktop and it seems like once it goes to sleep it doesn't want to wake up. I'm going to try turning off the sleep mode and activate the screen saver to see if it makes any difference. I'd assume you've tried that already though. That's pretty infuriating not to get any feedback from Apple about that.

I just got a mac mini 2011 and conected it to my acer 21 montior using the hdmi to dvi that comes with the mini

and the monitor started to blink in and out so I got a hdmi to dvi calbe  and that has solved my problem

I think the hdmi to dvi that come with the mac is the problem.only paye about $10 for the cable
