How are the photos getting onto the card ? If you are copying them onto it yourself then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them

Thanks for the info, Photos are getting on the card from a Everio camcorder.

And that uses the DCIM naming standard ?  Have you tried a soft-reset of the iPad to see if it recognises the card after it's restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Thanks, also reformatted an old SD card (on 2gb) and it worked.  For some reason this new SD card (64gb XC from Qumox) will not work.  Still not sure why but will have to save on old PC.  Appreciate your help!!!

Not sure whether it also applies to the lightning SD card reader, but the card reader from the camera connection kit for older iPads supports SDXC cards when they are not formatted as ExFAT (not sure whether there is also a capacity limit) - so it may not being recognised because of that.
