Effect of deleted files on a sparse image size ...

I clone my computer's hard disk to a sparse image disk.  Whenever I delete files and folders, I know that the sparse image disk doesn't shrink back.  I would like to know if the freed space gained by deleting files will be used at the next cloning session to copy new data ?
