The space that was gained by deleting data will be filled back up to the point where it was originally.....and then the sparsebundle size will start to "grow" again.
In other words, if there was 100 GB originally, and you deleted 50 GB, the sparsebundle size will still display as 100 GB until it fills up to that amount. When the data reaches 100 GB, the sparsebundle will start to show a higher number which will reflect the actual amount of data stored.....until you delete more data again.

Thank you BOB ... I understand that your explanation is valid as well for sparse image.
