You are saving it as a .pages file and not exporting it as a .doc or some other format?
It sounds awfully like it hasn't actually transferred to iCloud at all and is still only on your Mac.

Well, Peter that is the problem as you can see from my original post.
Or now I should say: was the problem. When I got home from work this evening, my iMac had rebooted (for an unknown reason) and when Pages opens the files are synced with iCloud.
Very strange but now it works as it is supposed to. I don't know why it didn't work for a while.
Thank you for your time.

I had the same problem.
My problem: iPad Pages won't sync with iCloud
All of my OS and app software was completely up to date, but files created from my computer's Pages would not sync with Pages on iOS.
My eventual solution:
- I opened the documents in Pages on my computer, and copied and pasted the contents into NEW documents in Pages and saved them to my Desktop.
- In a web browser, I logged into iCloud and clicked on iWork, and then Pages.
- In the upper right hand corner of iWork is a pull-down menu with the option to upload documents.
- I uploaded my new documents to iWork, and the documents appeared and downloaded immediately to my iPad and into my computer's iCloud folder. Problem solved.
It is a bit annoying to have had to complete the extra step of uploading through the web browser, but honestly, I'm just happy it worked.
I hope this helps others troubleshoot their iPad/iCloud/Mac document syncing issues.

Thanks for all solutions, but
The problem still persists with me.
My MacPro with the latest OS and Pages (upgraded half an hour ago) will not sync it's Pages documents with iCloud for weeks now. I tried to find a solution in several ways.
ElleMaui's solution works, but only as far as getting the document to appear on iCloud online. In Pages itself, on the Mac, it still does not appear then and other documents there are 'waiting' with a little cloud in front.
Also, I have a lot of documents, so uploading and downloading every single one of them is not so practical.
Does anyone know a definite solution?
