I have the same issue. I think it is Intego's issue. The problem started after the last Intego updates, which was rolled out on or about November 18. Please let me know if you were able to resolve the issue, as I have the same problem.

As a temporary workaround, until the problem is fixed by Intego, you can deselect disk images on the list of archive types to be scanned. Go to scan settings, click on the Archives tab, and uncheck "disk images (.dmg)". The on demand scan should work but it won't scan any .dmg files on your system.

According to Intego, they are well aware of the problem and they are working to release a new version "10.8.19" that will resolve the said-problem. In the meantime, for VirusBarrier x6 to complete the scan, navigate to "Scan settings/Archives" and uncehck the option for : Disk Images(.dmg). You can re-enable this option after you have updated to "10.6.19".
