I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Which of the following is correct, if either?
- You have a window open with tabs. You click on a tab, and another window opens.
- You try to open a new tab, and a new window opens instead.
When I try to open something using tabs it opens OK, on the page I wanted.I but as a new page and the previous page (which i may have anted to keep open) is 'covered up' by the new page via me hitting tabs

I'm struggling to understand your description of the problem. Can you illustrate with a screenshot? If not, it would be best for you to make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store. It's a free service.
