I suspect your system is starved for RAM, please carefully read and use Activity Monitor to read System Memory and determine how much RAM is being used

Thanks for sending that, but I've looked the activity monitor a lot recently. What are you suggesting that I do with this?
I've shut down my Adobe CS, and one or two other things I'm not using. But what about when I am using them? Why is 10.8 sucking up so much RAM, when 10.7 ran really well?

ML has a minimum system requirement of 2Gb if RAM. Adobe apps tend to use a LOT of RAM, a simple RAM upgrade to 16GB should cost as low as $65. Just do that and the issues with RAM should dissapear. Read the article I provided carefully and it will explain how to use AM so you can tell if your system needs RAM or not.
