Hi. I'm a little late to the party but I have been noticing the last few weeks terrible decreased battery life on my early 2011 MBP. It seems I can watch the battery life drain as I do simple internet surfing and emailing. I don't really use my computer for much more than that. I have done all of the tips in the Apple Help section (decreased display brightness, checked activity monitor, etc), but it still seems signifcantly degraded compared to a few months ago. I can't really remember when it started happening, after I upgraded to Mountain Lion, or if it happened after the last upgrade. But I'm just now recently noticing it. I've checked the blogs and it seems others have had this problem, but most of the posts are a few months old and I know Apple was looking into it. Just curious if there has been any resolution to this by Apple, or if anyone has come up with any tricks that can fix the issue?? I'm not really computer saavy and don't want to install any third party software. I'm just annoyed at having to charge it more often. Thanks!!

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Have you tried to recalibrate your battery? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490

No, I haven't done that. I'll try it next. I'll try just about anything! Thanks!

Often the problem is incompatible 3rd party software that is running out of control.

I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be causing these problems. Download EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/download/EtreCheck.zip, run it, and paste the results here.

That doesn't look bad. Can you quantify your poor battery performance? How long does it last on a charge? While running on the battery, the battery percentage will go down. If you do the match, you can see how long you can expect it to last.

I'll pay more attention to it. It just seems to be draining much faster than usual. But I haven't really actually timed it. Thanks so much for your help!

I have the exact same experience. This is a problem with Mountain Lion. There's a huge thread about it here:
