I have been using an iPhone application named BatteryDoctor with a Discharge Rank feature that helps to have a better idea what is causing the difference you experience on battery life, besides you restored your phone from a back up it really doesn't mean you automatically you would have the same settings from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5, it just means that the content on one phone is the same in another phone, but some settings could be different as a default on the iPhone 5.

So my standby time is pretty good, usually don't see more than 1% drop in an 8 -10 hr period, but usage is horrendous. I typically see a 1% drain for every 2-3 minutes i use the phone, either texting, browsing , apps etc... I called apple care, they are glad to switch out the phone at an apple store, but i wonder if i should even go through this process. Seems like most people who have done multiple exchanges encounter this same issue. Since my phone is pretty good with no drainage during standby, I am a bit worries i will get a worst phone where i will have to deal with poor battery life during usage and standby.
Ahhh apple, you make it so difficult for us just to be at ease and enjoy a phone we paid 300+ give or take contract activation. I played with display phones at the store and it seems to drain the same way during use, but it puzzles me how some people get 9 or so hour usage, because at the rate the battery drops, that seems almost impossible.
My phone can last forever if not used much, but with usage its a joke. I know all the specs state upto a certain amount of ours and not actually guaranteeing we see those hours, but losing 1% every 3 minutes or so... no way would i come cose to 10 hrs browing on wifi or 8 hours talk time ( oh, batery drains quicker on calls, I was on the phone with apple care for 20 min and drained 10% battery.. that equates to about 3/13 hours of talk time compared the UP TO 8 hours.... Should I even bother with an exchange SMH

That is exactly my problem!!! The percentage drops a percent every 3 minutes when I used the phone. I just called apple support and they told me there was nothing wrong with my battery when I sent them my diagnostic report. So I don't know if it is worth me driving 40 min to my nearest apple for them to tell me the same thing again. I just recieved my phone last Wednesday, so I haven't had it a week yet. I bought my phone at At&t if that has anything to do with it. I have had my iphone 3g before this for 3 years and that phone lasted me the whole day.

So your phone is ok on standby? I think pretty much all iphone 5's drain that way during usage, an average of 1% every 3 min or so, I messed around with 4 different iphone 5's on display in the store and each one seems to be the same way. Mind that I have everything on except bluetooth. Apple care arranged for me to exchange the phone at any near by apple store, but I would like to avoid the hassle if its gonna be the same issue anyway. I just realy wonder how some of those users claim 9 hours or so of usage, unless much of the usage consists of listening to music ( not streaming ) but your stored music, since that does drain alot less battery, hence the up to 40 hrs advertised on music play back. But actual usage, as in texting, emailing, browsing, apps, etc.... it seems almost impossible to me. So it makes me wonder. Man at this day and age, 2012- with so many years of smart phone production, you would figure battery would not be an issue. I just want realistic battery life, there may be some that have higher expectations of battery life, like not charging the phone for 2-3 days.... For all the years i ever owned a smart phone or cell phone,,,, i never had instances where i would not have to charge the phone for 2-3 days. AS long as I can get a god 12-14 hours.... moderate usage and standby together.... i will be more than satisfied. YOu have to realize iphones take a lot of power just to run, f=all the brightness, apps, functions going on.... yet the battery hasent really increased from previous iphones.... so realistically going 2-3 days without a chage is being a bit unreasonable. But a full 12 hpur day is expected.

I wouldn't mind my phone have good battery just for 8 hours out of the day. I just hate the fact that it is 3-4 hours where my phone completely dies on me.

is it 3-4 hours constant use? or 3-4 hours usage and standby...

It is a mixture of both. I was at work all morning so when I looked at my phone I noticed my percent stopped going down when I not use so that is a sign because in the beginning it would go down even when I was not on it. I was on for a little today after work and that's when the percentage goes down every 3 minutes. I stopped for awhile now because I am home and on my macbook. I will take a picture of my usage and post it in a little to see if it is good the usage and stand by.. Right now I am at 20% which isn't that bad. When I took the phone of my charger this morning I went on my email and that took percentage down to a 97% that alone. Once I got to work I stopped using my phone until I left. I only worked a half day so I got out at around 12:30 It was still at 97%. One thing I notice is that when I do charge my phone it charges really fast within 20 minutes. Is that normal?

my phone charges really fast as well.... but not a full 0-100% in 20 min Faster than any of my previous iphones. Its a good sign that your phone doesnt drain during standby, usally that means you dont have an actual hardware issue. My phone is good on standby too, but does drain every 3-4 minutes when using, i thnk thats normal because i played with 4 different iphones in the stores and it al seems that way. If you have light to moderate usage and your phone doesnt drain much on standby, you should easily go more than 3-4 hours on a charge.... with standby and usage.
For the record, seems like a restore as a new phone did help a bit with battery or maybe once you use the phone more often battery gets better, not sure. I cant really tellif i have optimal battery life, like i said, when on standby its great, but with heavy usage, i cant ever seeing it reach the apple advertised specs. I wish apple could shed some light on this. Giving your customers a response and acknowkedging there is a problem would make the majority feel a bit better. Its obvious this is an actual real issue as there are so many posts about it. I know some people might not have realistic expectations, but everyone that wns an iphone 5, should last the day with light to moderate use.... the phone should last 10-12 hours.

thats not so bad, plus that last 13% would praboably get you another hour of usage and a few hours of standby... i am currently at 13 hours stand by... 2 30 min usage at 79% sounds good right ? but i dont feel like i actually used the phne for 2hr 30 min

In another forum someone said if you delete icloud it will help.. but these are features on the this phone. I had an iphone 3g for 3 years and in the beginning of october my phone crashed leaving me with no apps because they were not compatible with that phone anymore.. I want to be able to use all these features on this phone and not keep deleting everything. I did not delete icloud yet though but i did turn off reminders, safari, notes, and passbook and contacts so it won't sync back and forth with my macbook i can live without that. but i like the have the shared photos and everything.

Hey guys just to add to the iphone 5 check your local weather app lately and how it won't load? Yeah works fine on iphone 4 but apparently not on the 5. This is the apple weather app i am referring to. And when you have it check the local which means where ever you currently are it won't update, pull down the notification banner tho and its updated there just fine. Come Apple is this really the end of the Steve Wonka Chocolate Factory?! Competitions lookin real nice right about now!

nessdunk - im gonna have to disagree with "MR WIN" ... I think that battery life is pretty standard with the "HORRIBLE" that people are complaining about. 4 hours 53 mins usage? Nope... Thats horrible.

We all want to be able to use the features on this phone! Thats why we bought THIS phone. There's obviously a huge problem (probably software) with the phones. You can either wait and hope that they are LOYAL and WORKING ON IT. Or you can return your phone, get your money back, and buy a product from another company. There's nothing else you can do at this point.
