Did you ever figure this out? I have the same question

No but I don't think it's possible, it seemed like it did it occasionally but i couldn't figure out for sure if it had been automatic or something I did. I just downloaded an app to receive RSS feeds. It's called feedler but its not gonna help for the podcasts. Sorry :/

Can I ask what podcast you are trying to import to iBooks.? Is it WT?

Yep! But I found the iPad app I mentioned above and I subscribed to the epub and pdf versions of both magazines on the website and now they download to the app and I open the documents from there and put them in iBooks. It's not as simple as I would like but it works!

Is this somehow better or easier that going to the website and loading to iBooks from there? I don't understand why you would use the app.

Well they show up a lot sooner through the RSS feed than they did on the website. At least they used to. When I first downloaded the app I was getting them weeks before they showed up online. But I think they have started putting them online the same time they released them through the RSS feed. I guess that does seem odd now haha I get what you're saying! But yeah it doesn't make sense for me to use the app now since it doesn't get them to me any faster.
