I have a new iPad Mini and whenever I sync it appears to hang at the end with the message "waiting for items to copy" or "Waiting for changes to apply." The majority of the sync appears to have completed. By doing a wireless sync and watching the iPad itself I discover it is 'hanging' while trying to copy Ringtones.

I have 4 purchased Ringtones I use on my iPhone. These do not appear in the listing of Ringtones on the iPad. And I have tried unchecking the option to sync Ringtones, but it still hangs. It doesn't always hang on the same Ringtone, either, just one of the four.

I don't need the Ringtones on the iPad. How can I get rid of them -- when unchecking the option to sync them appears not to work?

I have done a search on this and see that a lot of people have a similar sync problem, but I have yet to find a remedy for my specific issue -- i.e. how to get rid of the Ringtones on the iPad.

Thank you.

Judy

Have you heard of manual sync? When you use more then one device, you really do not want to have same stuff. So you go to itunes preferences, devices and disable auto sync. Then you decide what you do or don't sync. It allowes you to sync by individual categories, for example for me books on my ipad and music on ipod. Instructions can be found here

Thanks but a manual sync is what I am doing. I'm pretty sure ringtones were unelected from the beginning but they definitely are now. It didn't make a difference. Sync still tries to "copy" them.

Of course the last sync I did hung on the " anti-phishing database" instead of a ringtone so maybe it isn't just the ringtones. <shrug>

    Thanks anyway.

    Unselect everything.

    Click apply.

go to preferrenses, devices, reset sync history.

    restart computer and ipad.

    Sync again.

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't had time to completely follow your steps (removing and restoring apps would be time consuming) but have tried reseting sync history and that did nothing. It's really odd in that the sync does appear to complete. It just 'hangs' on one of the items being 'copied' at the end, usually one of the Ringtones (which aren't even supposed to be on there). I've only had this iPad Mini for a week and it's done this in every sync I've don so far.

When things calm down after the holiday I'll try again with your suggestions.

    Thanks,

With fingers crossed I think the problem is resolved. I was having trouble syncing a couple of new apps I downloaded so decided I better take the time to do as you suggested. I did 'cheat' a little in that I unchekced Apps but left them on the device. I also did not uncheck my Outlook data. But I did uncheck everything else, reset the sync history, rebooted, and then rechecked one tab at a time. Its been syncing fine since, so this apparently solved m problem.

    Thanks for the help!

    You are welcome.

If you using icloud for contacts and calendars, do not mess with outlook data settings, please. At some point it will get your data duplicated and more. I spoke to the guy, who had 53 copies of contacts, just cause every time he synced, he checked and forced cloud and outlook at the same time.
