Hi,

I am unable to enrole additional devices on my new OS X server (10.8) using a self signed certificate. I have 10 iPads to enrol in total.

The first one actually went on fine, I used it to test the settings for groups - once I was happy I tried to enrol the other 9 iPads, however they will not work.

This is what I am doing to enrol the iPads

On the device I open safari and go to https://myserver.local/mydevices,

I add the trust profile

I accept the certificate

I touch 'enrol'

I accept the certificate

Now on the first iPad, the page came back and I could see the iPad in profile manager. All the others I have tried so far return nothing, its like the server thinks that nothing has happened. If I go to settings>general I can see the certificates I accepted are in there but I am unable to see/wipe/lock them from profile manager.

I have tried restoring the other iPads with no luck. I am also able to un-enrol the first iPad I used and then re-enrol it with no issues.

Any help or suggestions on the subject.

At a minimum you should see trust cert and remote management profiles

    Check the server logs

Check the user and or group is allowed to enrol devices

A much quicker method is to enable auto enrolment

Use apple Configurator to install your trust and auto enroll certs plus a wireless profile to get the device on the network

I use an enrolment wireless to get the devices on the network and then push out whatever wireless the user needs to be on along with mail ldap VPN etc

The enrolment wireless is then turned off and can be used if the device or devices need to be reconfigured

Once the device. is enrolled by auto enrol you can either leave the device unassigned to a user

Or assign the device to a user using profile manager

Using apple Configurator there is much less tapping away on devices and less chance of typos with wireless passwords

I don't about you but I get pretty of sick of typing the same things over and over, 3 times is my limit !

Yes providing auto enrol is working

iPads will only automagically  appear in PM if auto enrol is enabled in PM

And you've got your servers  auto enrol profile in apple Configurator

And you're able to successfully install all the needed profiles with apple Configurator

And if the devices are online

You've still got to do some tapping on the devices but it's much less than manual configuration

    Sounds like your getting there

could be your wireless profile is wrong somewhere, could indeed be the proxy

The devices need a working wifi connection to allow the devices to connect to your PM server

and apples push notification service. in order to complete the auto enrol

on the left side of PM

you should see, under the usual things

enrollment profile - this is auto enrollment

if it's missing you can add it via the + button on the bottom left

it appears in Apple configurator as Auto-join Devices enrollment profile
