How do I backup bookmarks?

I had been doing "export bookmarks" periodically and manually and saving the exported file to a folder.

Is there a better way?

The better way is to back up all your data to an external storage device, using Time Machine or some other general-purpose backup tool. The bookmarks will be backed up along with everything else. You will inevitably lose any data you don't back up.

Quit Safari. Disable Safari synchronization in iCloud, if applicable.

Hold down the option key and select Go Go to Folder from the Finder menu bar. Copy the following line into the text box that opens, then press return:

    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist

Enter Time Machine and restore the selected file from a snapshot.
