I recently got a new hard drive and lost all my contacts. Now Address Book freezes when I try to open it. I assume it's corrupted. Can I downloard new software?

If you have you installation disk you can do an optional installation of Address Book. But if it is the data files that are corrupted, reinstalling the software won't cure anything.

I haven't used Pacifist, but have often seen it recommended here.

Address Book is not an optional installation; it comes with the OS, so it's the installer disc 1 you need to extract it from.

Pacifist is pretty easy to use. Just follow it's instructions to enter the package and search for the address Book app., then follow the instructions to extract it and install.
