So my mother in law just bought a Mac mini on Sunday and has to have windows I order to VPN to work (VPN requires active x drivers) so I used the boot camp assistant 5.0 to download the latest drivers and after I get windows 7 32 bit installed I insert the disk that boot camp has burned to load the drivers and windows7 gets a pop up windows that saies the program is for the wrong version of windows please contact the software provider. All of the files in the folders have 64 after them which tells me their all for windows 64 bit. Now the guy at the store and the guy on phone support ( who was not helpful at all last night) saies that it does not matter which version I use 32 bit or 64 bit; if that is the case then how do I get the 32 bit drivers.

Oh and the os is OSX 10.8.1 why does the App Store not give me OSX 10.8.2 as an update.

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1)

Why are you installing 32 bit Windows? Your computer is 64 bit. New programs are 64 bit. 64 bit Windows runs 32 bit programs. 32 bit Windows can not use more than about 3.5GB of ram.

    Install 64 bit Windows.

Because when we first bought the system on sunday i was told by the sales rep and the website that it supported both 32bit and 64bit since it was a dual core I5 and not a Quad core I7 and because the windows side was only being used for Internet Explorer for the active X drivers so that we can VPN to work to buy the 32 bit version.

Are you saying that the VPN requires 32bit Windows?, if not install 64bit Windows on your 64bit machine

The boxed retail version of Windows includes two dvds, one 32 bit Windows and one 64 bit Windows. Use the 64 bit Windows for your 64 bit computer, especially if you have more than 3.5 GB of ram. I do not know of any 32 bit Windows programs that will not run in 64 bit Windows.

I was told to just buy OEM copies but my frustration is that I'm already $200 in OS's because of the information that was provided to me by apple personnel and told by a senior tech that this still can be done.

So to say I'm going to be S.O.L and spend another $100 (for a total of $300 and 2 OS's that are usless to me; because the first time i was told that i could use Windows 8 and when the drivers did not work i was told that Windows 8 is not supported by boot camp drivers at this time so i have to go buy windows 7) I might as well return the $2,500 system and just go back to PC and get a $900 dollar PC system.

I will continue to work with the senior tech that i'm currently working with because the other issue is that OSX 10.8.1 will not except the OSX 10.8.2 update stating that it is not supported by OSX which i was told "that's strange"

That is the most sensible approach if your aim is to run Windows.

I received the same information - could use either 32 or 64 bit windows 7 OEM.  So I purchased the 32 bit version and having the same problem with the drivers.

Are the 32 bit drivers available?  Or am I stuck with buying the 64 bit version?

So last night the Apple Solution guy at my best buy was able to use Boot Camp 4.0 to get most of the Drivers the rest had to be downloaded from intel. This is a flaw in Boot Camp 5.0 so hopefully boot camp 5.1 or higher will fix this problem. As for OSX 10.8.1 not taking the 10.8.2 update it is a flaw with the 10.8.2 update that Apple became aware of as of this Tuesday and will be making another update such as 10.8.3 or higher. So as of now I have no problems thanks to Jon at the Best Buy in Schaumburg, IL
